Rising director Pan Ke-Yin’s debut feature film “Our Family” held its Taipei Film Festival red-carpet premiere on the evening of the 21st. Director Pan appeared alongside his star-studded cast — Lan Wei-Hua, Kao Yi-Ling, Tseng Jing-Hua, Huang Pei-Chi, Yao Chun-Yao, and Chu Yi-Ming, lighting up the event with their presence.
At the film’s Taiwan premiere, Director Pan shared emotionally,“I thought I wouldn’t be nervous anymore, but I still had a stomachache after midnight last night! I’m just really happy to finally meet everyone here together with my cast. When I’m working abroad alone, I often miss them a lot.”
The film made headlines for scoring a “full-house nomination” — with all four core family members recognized in the Taipei Film Awards. Actors Lan Wei-Hua and Tseng Jing-Hua reacted with a laugh, saying in unison:“It feels awesome!”

Director Pan Ke-Yin’s debut feature “Our Family” continues the tender narrative style he established in his acclaimed short film “Sister.” The story unfolds through shifting perspectives of four family members, interweaving moments of growth, change, loss, and reconciliation into an intimate portrait of family life.
Before its official release, “Our Family” has already garnered international acclaim, winning the Yakushi Pearl Award for Best Performance at the Osaka Asian Film Festival. It also achieved a “grand slam” of nominations at the Taipei Film Awards, with five major nods — Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best New Performer, and Best Screenplay.

Tseng Jing-Hua celebrates the film’s “full-house” nominations at the Taipei Film Awards, exclaiming, “It feels awesome!”
Director Pan Ke-Yin shared that, before filming, he organized a three-day, two-night retreat in Changhua to help the cast build authentic family chemistry.
“We really went barbecuing, hiking, and just hanging out,” Pan said with a laugh. “We even split into two teams — the ‘Senior Group’ with Lan Wei-Hua, Kao Yi-Ling, and Yao Chun-Yao went bowling, while the ‘Youth Group,’ led by Huang Pei-Chi, practiced walking posture — she used her modeling background to coach Tseng Jing-Hua and Chu Yi-Ming.”
In the film, Tseng Jing-Hua portrays Hsia-Tsai, a recent graduate who embarks on an unexpected journey to uncover his family roots. He shares numerous emotional scenes with Lan Wei-Hua, who plays his father A-Dong, capturing a tense yet deeply moving father-son dynamic.
When asked about his nomination for Best Supporting Actor, Tseng responded candidly:
“It feels awesome! Especially since all four of us — the whole family — got nominated. Our crew really felt like a family, maybe because the director gave us so much warmth and positivity. It made the whole experience incredibly happy and fulfilling.”

Chu Yi-Ming, who plays the younger version of “Hsia-Tsai,” reunites with Tseng Jing-Hua — both portraying the same character at different ages.
In “Our Family,” Chu Yi-Ming portrays the childhood version of Hsia-Tsai, while Tseng Jing-Hua takes on the role as an adult. The two actors — playing the same character across time — closely observed each other’s expressions and mannerisms during filming. Director Pan Ke-Yin even designed a subtle “blink” gesture shared by both actors, symbolizing an emotional thread connecting their performances.
When asked what he noticed most about Tseng Jing-Hua’s acting, Chu Yi-Ming replied with a grin,“My first impression? He’s really handsome!”
Actress Kao Yi-Ling, who plays the mother A-Chiu, added with a laugh that the real favorite on set wasn’t the younger cast but Lan Wei-Hua, who plays the father A-Dong.
“A lot of the hair and makeup crew would flirt with him using cheesy pickup lines,” she teased.
Tseng Jing-Hua joined in the laughter, joking,“Maybe it’s because on the first day of shooting, I ate way too many bananas — an entire bunch! I ended up throwing up, and everyone saw it.”
The remark sent the whole crew into bursts of laughter, perfectly reflecting the film team’s genuine chemistry both on and off set.

Yao Chun-Yao plays the close friend of Lan Wei-Hua’s character in “Our Family.”
Huang Pei-Chi, the award-winning rising actress, reprises her role from director Pan Ke-Yin’s short film “Sister” in his feature debut “Our Family.” She plays the eldest daughter Hsiao-Chun, whose accidental discovery of her true parentage triggers emotional tension with her mother A-Chiu (played by Kao Yi-Ling). The role earned Huang a nomination for Best New Performer at the Taipei Film Awards.
Actor Yao Chun-Yao, who plays Lan Wei-Hua’s on-screen friend, shared a humorous behind-the-scenes story. Before filming began, director Pan Ke-Yin invited him over for a long chat to build rapport, even preparing several conversation topics in advance — yet after just ten minutes, the two fell into a comfortable silence.
The director later joked, “In that moment, I truly felt the power of silence — it said more than words ever could.”
