K-pop star Solar, lead vocalist of MAMAMOO, held a press conference on June 10 to officially launch her new Mandarin single “Floating Free.” It marked her first-ever live performance of the song in full, impressing media and fans alike with her fluent Mandarin pronunciation and flawless vocal control, showcasing her trademark precision and emotional depth as a powerhouse vocalist.
During the event, Solar expressed her excitement and gratitude, sharing how the project fulfilled a long-held dream:“Releasing a Mandarin song has always been one of my dreams. I spent seven months learning Mandarin to make sure I could sing it properly. I’m so happy to finally share ‘Floating Free’ with everyone. This song is dedicated to all my fans who have supported me from afar — even if we can’t meet often, I believe music will always keep us connected.”

The single “Floating Free” is a joint production between RBW Entertainment (Korea) and Seed Music under Catwalk Group. During the press conference, the music video teaser was revealed for the first time, giving fans an exclusive preview of the project.
Solar shared that during the three-day MV shoot in Taipei, she experienced sunshine, rain, and cold winds, joking that it felt like going through all four seasons in one trip. She added that the rainy scenes actually enhanced the mood and emotional depth of the video. One of her favorite moments, she said, was riding a bicycle by the seaside — “It felt so peaceful and relaxing, with the breeze against my face.”
The song also features 9m88, one of Taiwan’s most acclaimed singer-songwriters, performing a duet with Solar. Their distinct vocal tones intertwine beautifully, blending warmth and power to create a perfectly layered sound.
Once the collaboration was announced, fans from both Korea and Taiwan flooded social media with excitement and anticipation for this international project.
Although 9m88 was unable to attend the press conference due to scheduling conflicts, she recorded a special video message to send her heartfelt congratulations to Solar.
Solar also recalled some heartwarming experiences while filming in Taipei. During one shoot in a residential neighborhood, a kind local elder offered her a freshly steamed corn — “It made me realize how genuinely warm and kind Taiwanese people are,” she said with a smile. Another memorable moment came while filming near a street hotdog stand, where the friendly elderly couple running the stall made her feel right at home.
She added that she immediately fell in love with Taiwanese food, especially brown sugar cake (黑糖糕) and dan zai noodles (擔仔麵) — “The flavor of the brown sugar cake was so unique, and I can’t stop thinking about the dan zai noodles. They were unforgettable!”
